もともとミルドレッド・ベリーという歌手の歌だったものを
1961年にレイ・チャールズがカバーして、グラミー賞を獲得した
この歌はジョージアという女性に向けての歌なのか

ジョージア州の人種差別主義に反発したレイ・チャールズは
故郷でもあるこの州での音楽活動を一切断り
1965年に、同州から追放されている

 

しかし、1979年にジョージア州はこの「我が心のジョージア」を州の歌と定め
レイ・チャールズの追放を撤回した
